GAMS - An Introduction to the General Algebraic Modelong System

Speaker: Franz Nelissen and Tim Johannessen

When: Tuesday, September 1, 2015; 14:00-16:00

Where: Elise Richter Saal, first floor (see floor plans)

In this workshop we will start with the basics of GAMS to develop algebraic models and solve them using state-of-the art algorithms. We will introduce the key concepts of GAMS and the fundamentals of the language (e.g. sets, data, variables, equations) and show how GAMS supports an easy growth path to larger and more sophisticated models. The largest part of the workshop will consist of hands-on exercises in which we are going to build a simple optimization based decision support application from scratch. Along the way we will look at some of the data management tools included in the GAMS system and show how to analyze and debug large problems using the various tools available within GAMS.

Gurobi - Recent developments in the Gurobi Optimizer

Speaker: Michael Winkler - Gurobi Developer

When: Tuesday, September 1, 2015; 14:00-16:00

Where: Visitor Center, first floor (see floor plans)

In this workshop we'll talk about the latest developments in the Gurobi Optimizer. We'll discuss the new Gurobi Cloud, which makes it easy to launch one or more Gurobi machines when you need them. We'll also talk about our recent Gurobi 6.0 release, which includes significant performance enhancements and several new features. Among the new features, we’ll focus on our new algorithmic support for piecewise-linear objective functions, which provides significant performance benefits for this common problem type, and our new distributed MIP solver, which allows you to use multiple machines to solve a single difficult MIP model in parallel.
